For his debut solo exhibition, British Artist Alistair Canvin presents Do Not Over Inflate, a playful reflection of reminiscence and notion, via a surreal photo-real sequence of authentic work. For artists, nostalgia gives a wealth of emotive materials, from Norman Rockwell’s idealisation of a less complicated time, to Jeff Koons love of shopper tradition and capitalist icons. For Alistair Canvin, this time travelling portal gives a large number of experiences to subvert. From playful objects, to his exact selection of color, Canvin disturbs the levity of childhood; with the disclaimers of maturity.
The sequence seems joyous, stuffed with color and paying homage to summer season holidays and breaks away, nevertheless a more in-depth look; reveals delicate undercurrents of worry. Inflatable animals and seaside balls characteristic in vivid and florescent colors, however are proven in states of disuse; deflated, burned or compressed. Sq. blue tiles bend and wave beneath clear water whereas the floor holds a buoyant rescue vest.
