Juxtapoz Magazine – Lisa Edelstein’s “The Den” Series Comes to Anat Ebgi, Los Angeles



Lisa Edelstein: The Den is slated to open September 16 at Anat Ebgi Gallery in Mid-Wilshire marking her first West Coast solo artwork exhibition. Within the midst of pandemic lockdown, the actress began drawing. It initiated with desirous to make her personal coloring e book and he or she turned to outdated household photographs as her level of departure.  Beginning with magic markers she swiftly shifted to watercolors.  In learning these household photographs, it conjured a time when footage had been spontaneous and captured one thing trustworthy and genuine versus the composed, conscientious and constructed images of our present cultural second.


Her drawing follow is contemplative and reflective, intimate, private, obsessive and therapeutic.  The artist reveals, “As we speak these are the photographs that we delete… So it’s a reduction to take a look at photos that seize the unedited, the uncomfortable and the unintended.”

Lisa began her profession by writing, composing, and performing her AIDS consciousness musical “Optimistic Me” on the famend La Mama theater in New York Metropolis. She then pursued an appearing profession in tv and movie, volleying between comedy and drama. She performed a wide range of culturally ground-breaking roles similar to Rhonda Roth in ABCs Relativity, which featured Lisa within the first lesbian make-out scene on community TV, and legislation scholar Laurie on The West Wing, who smoked pot and unashamedly selected prostitution to pay for her diploma. Lisa then spent seven seasons as Cuddy on the worldwide hit Fox medical drama “Home,” adopted by 5 seasons as Abby, the star of “Girlfriends’ Information to Divorce,” and three seasons as Phoebe, Alan Arkin’s drug addict daughter on “The Kominsky Technique.” Throughout this time, she began directing – each on TV and her personal initiatives (quick movies Unzipping, Lulu) in addition to writing, promoting each a pilot and a characteristic she is connected to direct. Subsequent on the appearing horizon is Fremantle’s restricted sequence “Little Chook” in addition to the quick movie initiatives “Swipe NYC” and “Shadow Brother” with Alden Ehrenreich. Fully self-taught, Lisa developed an artwork follow through the pandemic. Her exhibition at SFA Advisory in New York marked her first-ever solo presentation.
